CASE FATALITY RATE

-

The case fatality rate (CFR) is the proportion of deaths to the total confirmed cases over a period of time. It is expressed as a percentage of people who died from a disease and may vary with regions. Since the Covid-19 outbreak is ongoing, the CFR varies vastly between countries and will likely change drastically once epidemiologists calculate the final number of cases and deaths. Based on current numbers, India has a CFR of 2.9%, compared to the global average of 5.5%. Some scientists believe the CFR for ongoing epidemics should be calculated based on recent deaths and cases from 15 days ago to account for the gap between infections getting confirmed and patients dying.
