Phar­ma­cist at Haryana MLA Hos­tel among 2 new Covid-19 cases in UT

CHANDIGARH/PANCHKULA/MO­HALI: Two women, in­clud­ing a 45-yearold phar­ma­cist posted at the Haryana MLA Hos­tel in Sec­tor 3, tested pos­i­tive for Covid-19 in Chandigarh on Sun­day.

With this, the city’s to­tal count has reached 406, of which 84 cases are still ac­tive.

UT health of­fi­cials said the 45-year-old woman, who re­sides in Sec­tor 22, is an em­ployee of the Haryana gov­ern­ment and was tested pos­i­tive in Panchkula. She has four house­hold and three fam­ily con­tacts. All are asymp­to­matic. The health au­thor­i­ties have or­dered sani­ti­sa­tion and seal­ing of the dis­pen­sary.

Mean­while, a 25-year-old woman from Mauli Ja­gran has also been re­ported in­fected, a day af­ter 14 cases sur­faced from this lo­cal­ity. She has five fam­ily con­tacts and one com­mu­nity con­tact, all of whom are asymp­to­matic, said of­fi­cials.


Three mem­bers of a fam­ily, in­clud­ing a new­ly­wed woman, from Raipur Rani are among seven new Covid-19 cases re­ported in Panchkula on Sun­day, tak­ing the district’s coun to 91.

How­ever, ac­cord­ing to of­fi­cial state­ment is­sued by the district au­thor­i­ties, the to­tal num­ber of pos­i­tive cases stands at 87, as the health de­part­ment is still ver­i­fy­ing ad­dresses of some pa­tients.

The 22-year-old woman had got mar­ried on June 9. She along with a 27-year-old woman and an 11-year-old rel­a­tive, who at­tended the wed­ding in Delhi, have tested pos­i­tive. Her hus­band had al­ready tested pos­i­tive on June 18, af­ter which sam­ples of 20 peo­ple who were part of the wed­ding pro­ces­sion were taken.

Among oth­ers who were found in­fected are two mem­bers of a fam­ily in Kalka, in­clud­ing a 34-year-old man and a woman of the same age; a 42-year-old res­i­dent of Sec­tor 26; and a 17-yearold woman from Bitna colony in Panchkula.

Pradesh is among four peo­ple from out­side the district who tested pos­i­tive in Panchkula on Sun­day. The woman had de­liv­ered a child in the civil hos­pi­tal. The labour room has been sani­tised while the staff who at­tended to her have been home quar­an­tined.


A cou­ple from Bal­tana in Zi­rakpur are among four fresh cases of Covid-19 re­ported in Mo­hali on Sun­day. With this, the district’s tally of con­firmed cases has reached 222, with 68 still ac­tive.

Be­sides the cou­ple, both aged 60, a 42-year-old man from Govind Vi­har in Bal­tana and a 40-year-old woman from Dera Bassi have also tested pos­i­tive.

Civil sur­geon Dr Man­jit Singh said all pa­tients have been ad­mit­ted to Gian Sa­gar Hos­pi­tal, Ba­nur, and their con­tact trac­ing is un­der­way.

Mean­while, 12 peo­ple, in­clud­ing eight from Mubarakpur and one from Dap­par in Dera Bassi and three from Naya­gaon, were dis­charged from hos­pi­tal on Sun­day, tak­ing the to­tal num­ber of re­cov­er­ies to 151.
