490 more people test positive in Haryana, tally rises to 12,010

CHANDIGARH: Haryana on Wednesday again logged one of the largest single-day spikes in Covid-19 cases with 490 people testing positive for the infection, which also claimed 10 more lives in the state, said the health bulletin.

The cumulative number of positive cases reached 12,010 in little over 100 days even as the death toll on Wednesday rose to 188 (131 men, 57 women). While six fatalities were reported in Gurugram, one died in Faridabad and three in Rewari.It was on this Monday that the state’s tally had gone past the gloomy 11,000 mark, while on June 11, there were 5,968 positive cases in Haryana.

As per the bulletin, the worsthit district, Faridabad, recorded 201 fresh Covid-19 cases, followed by Gurugram where 117 people contracted the infection in the past 24 hours. Rewari emerged as yet another hotspot on Wednesday with 48 cases, followed by Sonepat (29), Rohtak (22), Bhiwani (19) and Palwal (17). While Charkhi Dadri recorded nine cases, Ambala and Jhajjar saw seven fresh infections each, Yamunanaga­r five, Jind three, Panchkula two and Kurukshetr­a and Mahenderga­rh, one each. The bulletin stated that no new cases were reported from Karnal, Hisar, Panipat, Fatehabad, Sirsa and Kaithal districts.

Against the 490 fresh cases recorded on Wednesday, 427 patients recovered and discharged. There were 4,897 active cases in the state where testing per million reached 9,139.

PATIENT DIES IN PANIPAT

Panipat district on Wednesday witnessed seventh fatality after a 72-year-old man lost his battle with Covid-19, Panipat CMO Sant Lal Verma said, even as the state health bulletin didn’t mention this death.

Verma said the man was also suffering from other age-related ailments. Also, 13 people, including two inmates of the district jail, were tested positive for Covid-19 in Panipat, taking the number of those infected to 151 in the district.

14 FRESH INFECTIONS IN KARNAL

Contrary to the health bulletin, Karnal administra­tion announced that 14 people, including six members of a family, tested positive for Covid-19 in Karnal on Wednesday, taking the number of confirmed cases to 250 in the district. Similarly, five new cases were recorded in Kaithal, while a woman tested positive in Kurukshetr­a, the district health authoritie­s said.
