For the attacking midfielder, appointed captain at the age of 23, 2013-14 was a great season and looked like Liverpool’s Premiership title wait would end till against Chelsea, Gerrard slipped.

Joining in January 2011, he left by 2014 but in that time he would tear into defences -- not always figuratively. He and the club often didn’t get along well and Suarez didn’t help matter by biting Branislav Ivanovic and racially abusing Patrice Evra, both infractions earning lengthy bans. But there were many games he won on his own.
