STAND UP TO CHINA

-

Apropos the editorial ‘To deal with China, understand it better’ (June 30), India should have stopped all trade with China after the 1962 war. Promoting trade and giving a grand welcome to Chinese president Xi Jinping may have made China to believe that India had accepted its dominance in Asia’s hierarchy of power. China is interested in securing a road connection to the Arabian Sea through Xinjiang, Aksai Chin, Karakoram pass, Siachen glacier and Pakistan. We must revive the Mountain Corps to deter China and take up major projects with Taiwan, sell arms to Vietnam and cooperate with South-East Asian countries. We should also strengthen our relations with the US, Japan and Australia. The time for trying to ‘understand’ China has passed. Now is the time for action.
