KAPURTHALA:A day after pro-Khalistan activist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun of Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) was declared a terrorist by the Union home ministry under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, the Punjab Police on Thursday registered two FIRs, in Amritsar and Kapurthala, against him and his associates, including one Joginder Singh Gujjar, for carrying out seditious and secessionist activities.

Pannun, self-styled legal adviser to US-based SFJ, is now a designated terrorist for actively running a secessionist campaign against India and motivating Sikh youth from Punjab to join militant ranks. An FIR was registered under sections 10 (a) & (b), 11, 13 (1) and 17 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 against Pannu, Joginder Gujjar alias Goga, and unidentified SFJ members at Amritsar.

Dalit Suraksha Sena (DSS) had filed a complaint against Pannu and his associates and Amritsar’s Division B police registered an FIR (168) against him for burning the Indian Constitution, national flag and instigating others to do so as seen in an online video.

In its complaint, the DSS said Pannun and his accomplices had set the Indian Constitution and the national flag on fire and raised Khalistan Zindabad slogans. Pannun was also inciting the entire Sikh community in favour of Referendum 2020, said the complaint. The second FIR was registered at Bholath in Kapurthala and that Pannun, Joginder and SFJ members were charged with sedition. Police said Joginder was an active member of SFJ, which was declared an ‘unlawful organisation’ by the home ministry on July 10, 2019.
