LUCKNOW : A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team and forensic experts on Tuesday inspected the spot where a 19-year-old Dalit woman was gang raped and attacked on September 14 in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras district.

The investigators were accompanied by the victim’s brother; her mother and aunt were also later called to the spot and their statements recorded, said local police

The CBI, which took over the case three days ago, visited the local police station and questioned a policeman.

“The documents with the investigating officer have been handed over to the CBI,” said superintendent of police (SP), Hathras, Vineet Jaiswal.

A senior agency official said on condition of anonymity that the CBI’s probe was focused on five points: establish and collect evidence, find out whether any evidence was tampered with, identify the “real accused”, and probe allegations of negligence against local police. He said murder has already been established as the post-mortem report confirmed the victim had multiple injuries that resulted in her death on September 29 in Delhi. “Contradictory theories have surfaced about the gang rape allegations. The CBI will try to collect concrete evidences to establish the gang rape by taking opinion from forensic experts or whatsoever facts surface up during the investigation and by recreating the crime sequence,” the official said.

ED to question four alleged PFI members

The court of chief judicial magistrate, Mathura, granted permission on Tuesday to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to question four men who were arrested last week for allegedly having links with Popular Front of India (PFI) and its student outfit Campus Front of India (CFI). The four -- Atiq-ur- Rehman of Muzaffarnagar, Siddique from Mallpuram (Kerala), Masood from Bahraich and Alam from Rampur -- are currently in Mathura jail. Siddique is a journalist and a Kerala journalist body has moved court to secure his release. “The ED had moved an application before the court on Monday seeking permission to interrogate four PFI men in jail. The court allowed the plea on Tuesday,” said Braj Mohan Singh, additional prosecuting officer at the court.
