SC notice to Haryana on builder’s plea against NGT penalty for violating environmental norms
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has issued notice to the Haryana government and others on a plea by TDI Infrastructure Ltd challenging the NGT order which levied ₹10 crore penalty on it for violation of environmental norms in the Sonepat area.
The court sought response from the Haryana government, state pollution control board (SPCB) and the NGO on whose plea the tribunal had passed the order. The National Green Tribunal on October 23, 2019 slapped an interim penalty of ₹22.5 crore on six builders for violation of environmental norms in Sonepat area.
The tribunal was hearing a plea filed by Haryana based organisation Kissan Udey Samiti seeking action against violation of environmental norms by builders in Sonepat. The plea alleged that the builders were not providing proper sanitation system and sewage system in buildings constructed in Sectors 58 to 64 at Kundli in Sonepat.
NGT directs recovery of ₹3.24 cr penalty from STP for pollution in Haryana
The National Green Tribunal directed the Haryana state pollution control board (HSPCB) on Wednesday to recover ₹3.24 crore penalty from a sewage treatment plant (STP) at Dhani Garan village at Barwala in Haryana. A bench imposed the environmental compensation on account of the damage caused by the unit by discharging pollutants in excess of the standard prescribed. The tribunal was hearing a plea filed by Haryana resident Sukhwanti alleging that waste water was being discharged from the STP at Barwala, into the land of the applicant and other adjoining lands.
The plea contended that this has resulted in damage to the crops, contaminating groundwater, death of the livestock.
