SAD demands CM’s resignation for failing to waive farmer loans
CHANDIGARH The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Saturday demanded chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh’s resignation for failing to waive farmer loans, which it alleged led to the suicide of a father-son duo in Dasuya. The lies and deceit of the Congress government had been unmasked, the party said. The party also asked the central government to repeal three agricultural laws, saying the father-son duo had clearly stated in their suicide note that they were also taking this extreme step due to the agony caused by the centre’s refusal to listen to the voice of the farming community.
Party demands cut in fuel prices
The SAD has asked both the central government as well as the Congress government in the state to reduce petrol and diesel prices with immediate effect to give relief to the common man from the unbearable astronomical hikes in petroleum products this year.
In a statement, SAD leader and former minister Daljit Singh Cheema said petrol and diesel prices had been increased by 24 times this year. He said this had been done despite the fact that crude prices had gone down in the last one week with crude presently trading at $63 per barrel.
Asserting that it was the duty of the state government also to give relief to its citizens, Cheema said in Punjab state VAT on petrol was as Rs 19.72 per litre amounting to 27.26%. He said similarly the state VAT on diesel was Rs 12.41 per litre amounting to 17.53%.
