Punjab health systems corporation chairman Amardeep Singh Cheema on Monday said that timely coronavirus testing was the only way out to fight the pandemic in the state.

Cheema said that during his field visits, he said that 5% people visiting health facilities for first time had mild symptoms, 9% showed moderate symptoms and more than 85% were coming with severe symptoms. “At initial stages, symptoms are ignored which leads to complications at advance stage and is reflected from the occupancy level of Level 3(L-3) hospitals which is almost touching 83%. The occupancy in L-2 facilities is around 63% and another 47,000 patients are in home isolation,” he said in a statement.

On Covid-19 deaths, the PHSC chairman said the coronavirus deaths were showing an upward trend in rural areas and contributing 55% of the total fatalities.
