PHD SCHOLAR ENDS LIFE AT HISAR VARSITY LAB, 2 STAFFERS BOOKED
ROHTAK: Two JJU staffers have been booked for abetment to suicide after a 26-year-old PhD scholar allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison in the microbiology department’s lab at Guru Jambheshwar University in Hisar on Monday, said police.
In his complaint, victim’s father alleged that his daughter was harassed by her head of the department. “HoD Sandeep was pressurising her to make physical relations. The microbiology department’s dean and other authorities were mounting pressure on her to return the computer assigned to her,” he said.
He alleged that his daughter had sent an e-mail to varsity vice-chancellor Tankeshwar Singh complaining against the HoD and the chairperson of the department but there was no response. Hisar police spokesman Vikas Kumar said they have registered a case against microbiology chairperson Namita and HoD Sandeep under Sections 306 (abetment of suicide) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
