LeT terrorist killed in Kulgam encounter
SRINAGAR: Security forces killed a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist on Friday morning, ending the overnight gunfight in Kulgam on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway. The other militant reportedly escaped.
Two security personnel and two civilians were wounded in the exchange of fire between terrorists and forces. Police said a major tragedy was averted ahead of the Independence Day as the terrorists were planning for a big attack.
Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar said that they had inputs that terrorists will strike ahead of Independence Day on the national highway from Baramulla to Qazigund. “A big tragedy has been averted. As the terrorist fired, it was retaliated with a strong response within no time.” The terrorist killed in the encounter has been identified as foreign terrorist, Usman who according to police was active in south Kashmir from last six months and affliated with Lashkar. IG Kashmir Vijay Kumar said that after a long time foreign terrorists used RPG. “Besides AK 47 rifle, Rocket launcher and grenades (cells), Ak 47 recovered. ”
CRPF jawan, 2 civilians hurt in grenade attack at Baramulla
SRINAGAR : Three people, including a CRPF head constable, were injured on Friday when militants lobbed a grenade towards security forces in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said.
Man held with explosives in Poonch
Ahead of Independence Day, an improvised explosive device, four sticky bombs, and ₹ 10,500 cash were recovered from a man in the Mendhar area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Friday. The man has been identified as Mehmood Hussain, a resident of Kasbalari village. A new recruit, Muzamil Hussain Shah, was arrested in Kishtwar . A cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from a forest area in Doda district. The recoveries included one pistol, a 12 bore rifle, two country made hand guns, five grenades and a large quantity of arms and explosives, he added.
