Panipat DC takes wheel, gives his driver a pleasant surprise

KARNAL: In a rare display of gratitude and humility, Panipat deputy commissioner (DC) Sushil Sarwan drove his driver Suresh Kumar and his family to their house in his official vehicle on the latter’s retirement day.
Kumar, who served as driver at Panipat DC office for 20 years, said he will never forget this last day on duty as his boss, the DC, himself drove him and his family home in Jyoti Nagar from the mini-secretariat.
DC Sarwan said it was an emotional day for every official. He thanked Kumar for his services by bidding him farewell in a unique way.
“I wanted to make this day memorable for Suresh by taking him home as he served us for 20 years,” the DC added.
“When we came out to see off him, I told him that today I will drive him, his wife Sunita and son Manjeet home,” he said.
Talking to HT, the Panipat DC said, “It was an impromptu decision to express our gratitude for the services he gave us.”
When asked for a reaction on the DC’s move, Kumar got emotional and said he had no idea that on the last day of his service, his sahab will make him feel so special and give him such a thoughtful parting gift.
“I don’t have words to explain this experience. Sahab made me emotional when he said he will drive us today. I will always remember this day,” he added.
Kumar said he served the government for 30 years and for the past 20 years, was posted at the DC office here and worked with several DCs during this period.
“I am thankful to have had this opportunity to serve the government. I have never met with any mishap while on duty,” he said, adding that he will go to some religion places with his family. Suresh originally belongs to Gohana in Sonepat and is now living in Panipat.
