Cop crushed to death by Haryana Roadways bus

AMBALA: In a case of hit-andrun, a 46-year-old policeman with the Crime Investigat­ion Department (CID) was allegedly crushed to death by a Haryana roadways bus on NH-73 in Yamunanaga­r on Friday.

The cop has been identified as Anand Kumar, who was posted in Ambala’s Mullana as an exempted assistant sub-inspector and was a resident of Geeta Colony in Yamunanaga­r.

Officials said he was in the town for chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar’s visit for VIP security on Thursday.

His nephew Shubham told the police that they had gone out in the morning and he was behind Kumar. “When he was crossing the road from divider, a speeding bus came from Kamani Chowk side and hit him. He collapsed on the road. We took him to civil hospital and he was declared dead,” the complaint read.

A case has been registered under Sections 279 and 304A of the IPC against the unidentifi­ed driver. The police said the autopsy was conducted and the body was handed over to the family.

11 students injured in Sirsa mishap

ROHTAK: A school bus carrying nearly two dozen students skidded off the road in Lohgarh village of Sirsa’s Dabwali area, said the police on Friday.

Locals rushed to the spot and sent the injured children to hospitals in Dabwali. Nearly 10 students received minor injuries and one student received a fracture in his leg, police said.

According to the police, the students are enrolled in a private school in a village of Punjab’s Bathinda and the bus used to ferry students every day. The locals said the students were rescued after breaking open window panes of the bus.

The students are undergoing treatment in different hospitals and all of them are out of danger. The villagers alleged that the bus driver was under the influence of some drug and fled the spot after the mishap. The students’ parents informed school authoritie­s about the incident and also asked police to take action against the driver. Police have registered an FIR against him.
