Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday arrested two terror operatives from a roadside eatery in Ramban’s Nashri, who after receiving a consignment of arms and ammunition dropped by a Pakistani drone along the International Border in Samba, were heading to Srinagar.

“The arms and ammunition were dropped by a Pakistani drone in Vijaypur area of Samba, probably on Sunday or Saturday. We are investigating,” said IGP (Jammu Zone) Mukesh Singh.

The duo has been identified as Umar Ahmed Malik and Suhail Ahmed Malik, residents of Semthan in Anantnag’s Bijbehara.

It may be stated here that the distance between Samba and Ramban via Dhar Road is more than 120km and Northern Command headquarters in Udhampur falls enroute.

Ramban SSP Haseeb-ur-Rehman said, “They had concealed the arms and ammunition in a bag.”

The recoveries included two AK-74 assault rifles, a pistol, 16 grenades, nine AK-magazines, 269 live bullets of pistol and two more magazines.

“They were working under a terror plot hatched by Kashmirbased terrorists and their Pakbased JeM handler Aqib alias Alfa from Budgam,” said the IGP.

The IGP futher informed that the duo clandestinely travelled from Kashmir to the International Border at Vijaypur in Samba district where they collected the arms and ammunition dropped with the help of drones.

“Further investigation of the terror module is on,” he added.

There has been a spike in the incidents of Pakistani drones dropping arms, ammunition, and drugs along the International Border and Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir.

Pakistan has also been digging trans-border tunnels along the International Border, especially in Kathua and Samba sectors.

On January 13, BSF had detected another trans-border tunnel along the 198km long Indo-Pak International Border in Bobbyian village of Hiranagar sector in Kathua district.

The tunnel was 150 to 160 metres long with having a diameter of two to three feet.

It was dug 25 to 30 feet beneath the ground.

On November 22 last year, BSF had detected a similar trans-border tunnel near Regal post in Samba sector that was used by four Jaish terrorists, who were eliminated at Ban toll plaza near Nagrota of Jammu district on November 19.

The four terrorists had used the tunnel and had travelled in a Kashmir-bound truck before being eliminated in a swift operation at Ban toll plaza.

They were part of a terror plot hatched by Kashmir-based militants and their Pakistan-based JeM handler Aqib.
