Farooq Abdullah, wife take the jab

Former J&K chief minister, president of the National Conference and Srinagar MP Farooq Abdullah, along with his wife, received the first shot of the vaccine at SKIMS on Tuesday.

Farooq was administer­ed the Covishield vaccine and after getting the jab, he appreciate­d doctors and nurses for their services and appealed to all those who are eligible to take the vaccine to fight this pandemic.

Jammu and Kashmir, meanwhile, on Tuesday recorded 85 fresh coronaviru­s infections taking the total cases to 1,26,589 while the death toll stood at 1,958 with no fresh fatalities.

Officials said that as many as 12 positive cases were reported from Jammu division and 73 from Valley, including 28 tourists. However, 94 more patients have recovered, including 25 from Jammu division and 69 in Kashmir.

The officials said that 1,23,811 people have recovered in the UT so far taking the recovery rate to 97.8%. There are now 820 active cases while the total number of tests conducted has crossed 52.26 lakh.

23 new infections in HP

DHARAMSHAL­A: Himachal Pradesh recorded 23 new Covid-19 infections, taking the state’s tally to 58,800, while no death was reported on Tuesday.

Of the new cases, 10 were reported from Kangra, three each in Mandi and Shimla, two in Una and one each Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Kinnaur, Sirmaur, Solan.

Recoveries in the state have reached 57,367 after 20 more people were cured. The active cases have gone up to 437.
