SIX KILLED, FOUR INJURED AS MINIBUS PLUNGES INTO RIVER IN DODA

At least six passengers were killed and four others were injured when the minibus they were travelling in skidded off the road and plunged into a river in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday.

Doda district police chief SSP Mumtaz Ahmad said, “A mini bus (JK06A-6733) was on its way from Doda to Chilli when its driver lost control while negotiatin­g a sharp bend near Piyakul in Kahara area.”

The SSP said it appeared to be a case of negligent driving. Eyewitness­es said that the illfated vehicle that rolled off the cliff hit boulders and split into two parts.

The dead and the injured were shifted to a trauma hospital in Thathri from where they were referred to GMC Doda.

Five of the six dead have been identified as Yasir Hussain, 26, of Dhrouth; Shukar Din, 60 of Tanta-Kahara; Kali Begum, 50 of Piyakul; Anju Devi, 28 of Sewa Chirala and Sudesha Devi 40 of Suhanda Shiva. The injured have been identified as Tanveer Ahmed, 28 of Chilli Malath, Abdul Latief, 35 of Chilli, Ghulam Mohammad, 60 of Gali-Bhatoli and Prem Chand, 60 of Bajja Chirala.
