Stage set for panchayat polls in Agra tomorrow

AGRA : All preparatio­ns have been made to conduct panchayat polls in Agra district on Thursday.

With campaignin­g ended on Tuesday evening, polling parties are ready to move to their assigned polling stations on Wednesday, a day before the polling in rural areas. “Preparatio­ns are complete for the polling day on Thursday. The polling parties will leave on Wednesday for the polling stations assigned to them,” said a senior official from Agra administra­tion.

Voting will begin from 7am and continue till 6pm. The panchayat elections will be held in 6,88 panchayats under 15 blocks of Agra district. In all, voting will take place for 2,400 posts, including 6,88 village pradhans, 51 zila panchayat members and for other positions in panchayat, he said.

Additional district magistrate and city magistrate have been made in-charge for six tehsils in Agra district while 45 super zonal magistrate­s have been deputed in 15 blocks.

District magistrate, Agra, Prabhu N Singh will remain on move to maintain an extra vigil during the panchayat elections.
