JeM militant, three aides arrested in Kulgam

A Jaish-e-Mohammed militant and three associates were arrested in south Kashmir’s Kulgam with arms and ammunition on Wednesday.

The active militant was identified as Zeyan Javid Dar, a resident of Ushkuru Baramulla while the associates are Zahid Nazir Mantoo and Umer Yousuf

Bhat , of Feeripora,Shopian, and Muzaffar Ahmad Banday, of Mandujan, Shopian.

A police spokespers­on said, “Acting on a specific informatio­n regarding the movement of terrorists, a special checkpoint was establishe­d at Bogund village. During checking of vehicles, three people in an Alto vehicle were signalled to stop, who on seeing the search party tried to escape but were apprehende­d,” he said, adding that another associate was separately apprehende­d from the checkpoint.

“As per police records they are affiliated with proscribed terror outfit JeM,” the spokespers­on said, adding that incriminat­ing material, including arms and ammunition, was recovered from their possession.

“A case was registered at the Kulgam police station.
