Kashmir: ₹20,000 fine on int’l fliers who conceal travel history

Those who have travelled abroad shall have to undergo RT-PCR test soon after they reach Srinagar airport

SRINAGAR: To remain prepared for the new threat of the Omicron variant of Covid-19, the Jammu and Kashmir government has taken a slew of measures, including imposition a fine of ₹20,000 if anyone found concealing the internatio­nal travel history of the last two weeks at Srinagar airport.

The decision was taken after Kashmir divisional commission­er Pandarung K Pole chaired a high-level official meeting in Srinagar that was attended by top officials of administra­tion and health department. The directives were passed that all those who have travelled abroad shall have to go through RT-PCR test soon after they reach Srinagar airport and people trying to skip the test or hide their travel history will face action.

Even the travellers have to be sent for an administra­tive quarantine. “After collection of sample for RT-PCR test, the travellers shall be sent to administra­tive quarantine till the reports are available, and if positive, the same shall be sent for genome sequencing in a prompt manner. The patient shall be admitted to a separate ward at DRDO hospital, Khanmoh, Srinagar, and treated as per the laid-down norms,” the order said. Even the one with negative reports shall be put on home quarantine or hotel quarantine for seven days.

“During which they shall be monitored by the respective

chief medical officers. If any symptoms are observed during this period, they shall be immediatel­y tested again otherwise they shall be re-tested on the day through RT-PCR and if negative, they shall self-monitor their health for next seven days. If their repeat RT-PCR test is posi

tive, the person shall be immediatel­y shifted to DRDO hospital, Khanmoh and his/her sample sent for genome sequencing,” the order said.

177 fresh Covid cases reported in J&K

Jammu and Kashmir reported 177 fresh Covid cases on Thursday. Of all cases, 140 were reported in Kashmir and 37 in Jammu. Kashmir reported highest 58 cases in Srinagar followed by 29 cases in Baramulla.

Srinagar has the highest number of active cases at 587 followed by Baramulla and Jammu districts with 317 and 144 active cases, respective­ly. The number of patients who were cured in the UT was 167 with active positive cases reaching 1,697.

Total 65,869 vaccine doses were administer­ed taking overall doses administer­ed to 1.674 crore. The overall number of people who have recovered reached 3,31,089, prompting the recovery rate to reach 98.41%. Since the pandemic started, the overall cases in J& K have reached 3,37,263 and the death toll has reached 4,477. Officials said 53,838 tests were conducted in the past 24 hours in the UT.
