Actor Urmila Matondkar, 43, got married to Mohsin Akhtar Mir, a Kashmiri model and businessman in a private ceremony in Mumbai on March 3. Mir is reportedly, about a decade younger than Urmila. The two met at designer and Urmila’s close friend, Manish Malhotra’s niece’s wedding in December 2014 and hit it off. After a year of courtship, they got married in an intimate ceremony amidst friends and family. Manish who was the only one from Bollywood present at the wedding says, “Urmila is a dear friend and I’m so happy for her. Mir is a simple guy from Kashmir, now settled in Mumbai. Urmila made a beautiful bride. She wore a red and pink bespoke lehenga from my Regal Threads Benaras collection, which is my ode to the ‘Make in India’ movement. She looked so happy, and I hope this happiness lasts forever.”

The wedding took place at the terrace of Urmila’s Mumbai house where a mandap was set up and the building looked festive with lots of lights. It was a Hindu wedding followed by a party. The couple will soon have a nikaah and a reception, that is expected to have people from Bollywood on the guestlist.

Mir is Mr India runner-up of 2007 and pursued modelling before turning to his Kashmiri embroidery business. Mir also tried his luck in Bollywood in filmmaker Saurabh Sengupta’s A Man’s World and had a small role in Zoya Akhtar’s Luck by Chance. A source informs that one day before the wedding, Mir moved into Urmila’s house. The wedding arrangements were taken care of by Urmila’s sister Mamta. In a statement Urmila said, “We kept it an exclusive wedding with just family and friends at the celebration. Since our families wanted the wedding to be a low-key affair, we mutually decided to keep it private. We seek your blessings on embarking this new journey of our lives.”
