OF OSCAR BUZZ AND FILM POSTERS
From an Indian connect to onderstruck’s Academy aspirations, day two at the Cannes Film Festival saw much more than just films
he second day at the Cannes Film Festival was about films that generated much excitement for the Oscar race. Tender childhood mystery Wonderstruck was the first one to spark the Oscar buzz. In the film, actor Julianne Moore is playing both a silent movie siren and a deaf 1970era New Yorker. US movie website Indiewire called the movie “exquisite” and an “immaculately crafted fable about the ways in which people of all ages learn to break out of their bodies and connect with the world”.
Later in the day, the makers of the film Leviathan screened their new movie, Loveless, a personal drama with political overtones. Apart from films, the second poster of Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi’s film Beyond The Clouds was also unveiled. The new look saw a silhouette shot of actor Ishaan Khatter, Shahid Kapoor’s half brother walking in a slum area with a bundle in his hand under a starless sky. Adding to this Indian connect, the first look poster of Shruti Haasan, Jayam Ravi and Arya starrer trilingual historic drama Sanghamitra was also launched there.
