Monsoon, health & yoga
Monsoon brings a welcome relief from sweltering heat. But it is also the season of bouts of flu and cold. And it doesn’t end there. There’s always a risk of falling prey to cholera, dengue and other diseases. So how does one enjoy monsoons the way they are meant to be and yet stay safe and healthy?
There are several precautionary measures that are helpful in warding off diseases and keeping them at bay during monsoons. To ensure best health, incorporating natural and side-effect free remedies and yoga are highly recommended.
Yogi Vikas Kumar, proprietor Brahmavarchas International Yoga Academy Lucknow believes that monsoon is a season where one needs to take extra care of oneself as human body gets more prone to infections. “Yoga is a timetested natural remedy for innumerable diseases and medical conditions. A few minutes spent practicing yoga or Chakra meditation even in the comfort of your home can improve your immunity drastically and let you enjoy monsoons better.”
“Respiratory illnesses and aggravation of the pulmonary medical conditions can get aggravated in monsoon and regular pranayamas and yoga exercises on a daily basis check these conditions and promote a healthier life because most of the asanas practised during the monsoons are the ones that promote chest-opening and healthier breathing,” adds Yogi Vikas. While most people choose to hit the gym and stick to rigorous routines and exercises, Yoga seems like a far better and calmer option to pursue. Mohd Shabi Rafique, yoga professional, says, “Yoga session can definitely provide your body the resistance that it needs to ward off monsoon diseases, various allergies and infections alike. Along with Yoga sessions and exercise routines, eating right is also very vital and if the season in question is the monsoon then outside food is usually avoided best. Here is a list of a few do’s and don’ts when it comes to following a yoga routine and healthy diet, during the monsoons!
