Sibling love, waiting to be ‘delivered’!

- Rishika Agarwal

It's that time of the year when all siblings will celebrate their sweet bond with lots of smiles, love and gifts. Raksha Bandhan is one of the most popular festivals in India, with roots that go back centuries into our past. Only the means have changed with the changing lifestyle to make the celebration more elaborate and lively.

Celebrated across the country in different forms, Rakhi is all about affection, fraternity and sublime sentiments, reinforcing the brother’s promise to protect and care for his sister as long as he lives.

So, while city girls are busy picking the best Rakhi, brothers are hunting an ideal present for their sisters.

“India is a land of festivals and Raksha Bandhan is one of the most special festivals as it celebrates sibling love. And with Raksha Bandhan, every brother is faced with the challenge of choosing the perfect gift for his sister. This Raksha Bandhan, let the testimony of your love reflect in your choice of gift," says a local gift shop owner.

The gift symbolizes the physical acceptance of sister’s love, reminder of their togetherness and the brother’s pledge.

Variety of gifts for sisters are available in the markets. Bucket handbags, tote and sling bags are trending the most. Fancy purses and backpacks are stylish rakhi gifts. While a backpack will add to the globe-trotter brother’s delight, a fancy handbag will makes a sister wow in joy! The choices in the stores are simply myriad.

“For my little sister I’m planning to gift her a smartphone as she is a gadget freak”, says Harshit, a brother shopping for her sister.

Apparels and accessories with pom-poms are also among the latest fashion. Tops with bell sleeves, straight kurtis, scarves, bracelets, earings all have a bit of pompoms. Cute tiny message bottles are a part too! Moreover, personalized gifts like coffee mugs, comfy pillows, t-shirts, mobile covers with photographs printed on them are also certain options for the brothers.

“I want my brother to gift me something that stays with me forever,” says Ritika Singh while purchasing rakhi on the streets of the city.

Plenty of other gifts are a part of the market, including chocolate baskets, choker necklaces, makeup hampers, latest smart-phones and fancy earphones. Fancy watches, perfumes and dazzling jewellery are also an available option. For the boys, gifting something to their sisters on rakhi is a big deal as every sister awaits her gift with eagerness and getting something classy!

Afterall, while there are a lot of beautiful moments that are captured in the celebration of Raksha Bandhan, the best and probably the most exciting part of the Indian festival has to be the exchange of gift.
