Three mass communication students came together for a creative endeavour and music video ‘Tu Muskura,’ directed by Soban Ahmad Khan is their labour of love.

Final year students of Amity University, Lucknow Campus, the trio—Soban, Piyush and Alavya Shanker— have also worked on some projects earlier. Soban has made three documentaries Mahira, Tow and Bahraich. “While making Bahraich I conceptualised the song ‘Tu Muskura,’ which has been penned by our classmate Piyush Tiwari. Later, I decided to do it as an independent project and then asked Alavya to compose the song. Soon, we decided to shoot the song with our limited resources as we are just students and hardly have any budget,” tells the director.

They shot the video in Nanital and Mukteshwar with a small crew comprising classmates. Alavya Shanker has composed, sung and acted in the video opposite batch mate Shrishti Srivastava.

Incidentally, Alavya is not a trained singer but music is his hobby. “I started learning guitar three years back and used to sing along. Friends and acquaintances appreciated my songs which motivated me. Soon, I started performing as a contract singer-cum-guitarist at functions and hotels. I am also a guitarist and lead singer of our college band ‘Only Him,” he tells.

Now, Alavya wants to make music his career. “In this album besides composing and singing, I have also acted in the video. Now, I am looking forward to learning acting and singing. I want to explore it further as a career,” he says.

Their batch mate Shrishti Srivastava has faced the camera for the first time. “Soban offered me to be a part of this shoot. Initially, I was like what can I do? But, then since it was with batch mates I thought of giving it a try. I have done anchoring before also but acting happened to me for the first time,” she tells HT City.

The assignment that she took up lightly has made her think seriously about exploring it further as a career. “Now, I feel that I can try some acting projects in future too. I have experience of anchoring and have done a small assignment for the Samajwadi Party. I will like to explore it further,” she adds.

Soban further adds that they are a group of 10 class mates who have worked together in editing, sound, directing and production department. “Alavya and I have jointly produced the video from our pocket money. Karan Sharma and Iksha Singh have also featured in the video with our lead pair,” he says. The video was launched in Lucknow on Thursday.
