This Movember, say no to shave for a cause

Well, guys, it’s only week done in November (er, Movember) and men all over the world are growing glorious upper lip fur and beard for a cause!

The goal of ‘no-shave’ in November is to grow awareness by embracing our hair, which many cancer patients lose, and letting it grow wild and free. Also money that you typically spend on shaving and grooming is used to educate about cancer prevention, save lives, and aid those fighting the battle.

Youngster S Qambar Hussain says, “I have a deeprooted fascination towards the idea of Movember and I am already into sporting a moustache and a beard. Though it’s my personal choice but since I got to know about ‘no shave November’ being observed since 2004, in so many countries, I think it is a great reason and a genuine cause to support.”

As part of Movember, events to raise awareness and funds for men’s health issues, such as prostate cancer and depression are organised.

Rupak Raj Upadhyay, a marketing professional, has been observing Movember from last three years now.

“I first came to know about it after watching Australian paceman Mitchell Johnson sporting a big moustache during the Ashes series Down Under. Johnson called his moustache ‘Mo’ and it had become a rage back then. I did some research later and took to this idea of spending November without shaving. I see beard and moustache as an expression of masculinity and there is nothing better than spending a month celebrating its existence. This year, I am planning not to shave as long as winter lasts.”

“Till the time I didn’t know much about the cause associated I used to think No-Shave November was just a fad. However, when I stumbled upon stuff on internet, my opinion changed. I now think No-Shave November is real noble cause to get involved with,” says another youngster Ashutosh Pandey.

“Since I love raw look, for me it’s double the fun,” he says.

Entrepreneur, Akash Sharma, has an opposing opinion, “I am not against the cause. Only thing for me is that I like my furry look. As it pictures me like a mature personality and this is the reason I sport a beard and moustache. Also I like to carry this look in winters but it is a big no no in summers whatever the cause maybe.”

Some quick tips to care for your moustache or beard

An even shave is great for best and even hair growth as then as the beard grows in, maintenance is key.

Go to a salon to trim your moustache and beard to perfection because it is important to remove some bulk so that the shape can be maintained.
