Manwaa-Beparwaah? Fix a date with Kabir fest

The state capital is set to witness the second season of the Kabir Festival. The fest, themed ‘manwaabepa­rwaah’ will begin on January 25 at Sangeet Natak Academy. Spread over four days, the highlight of the festival will be plays, dastangoi, music, kite fest and storytelli­ng for kids.

“The festival is focused on theatre to foster the message of philosophy, humanity and friendship. Its objective is to bridge the space between art/ culture and our social responsibi­lities,” says festival’s founder Deepak Kabir.

Three plays will be held during the festival. The Republic Day will see Bandish 20-20,000 Hz. Directed by Purva Bhardwaj it has music composed by Shubha Mudgal.

The second play is legendary playwright Habib Tanvir’s ‘Jis Lahore Nahi Dekhya and is based on a book by Asghar Wajahat.

It’s a story of partition, politics, love, compassion and humanity through the life of Lucknow’s Sikander Mirza and his family.

Third play Ladies Sangeet is set on gender stereotypi­ng through hilarious situations arising at a house that is preparing for the sangeet ceremony. If features Lovleen Mishra, Joy Sengupta and others. “The sets of Bandish and Ladies Sangeet have been created by the very same team that has done the sets of the film Bajirao Mastani,” claims Deepak.

Habib Tanvir’s daughter and singer Nagin Tanveer will be performing on the second day of festival. She is known for folk songs like Chola Maati ke Ram and sasural genda phool and also those of Faiz, Meer, Nazir Akbarabadi and Kabir. The festival will also feature a story telling session with children, kite festival, performanc­es by musical bands from other parts of India and seminars on social issues where they have panelists like Wilson Bezwada and Asif Shaikh.
