‘After Lipstick… a lot of doors opened for me’
Actor Plabita Borthakur’s portrayal of an independent college student and an aspiring singer in Alankrita Shrivastava’s Lipstick Under My Burkha (2017) got her noticed not only for the character she played but also how she added life to it. The actor, who has started working on her next project, says that the movie changed her life.
“People loved Rehana (her character’s name in Lipstick...) People now know that I exist and that
I can be good at my job. I had done quite a few ads, but that does not give you recognition like how a proper [fullfledged] film does. So after Lipstick… a lot of doors opened for me,” says the actor, who will be next seen in a film helmed by Kumud Chaudhary, starring Akshay Oberoi.
Asked what took her more than a year to sign her next project, Plabita replies that she wanted to take a break.
“Honestly, I did not know that film promotions could be so hectic. I realised that when we were travelling with Lipstick… from the length and breadth of the country for promotions. It took a toll on me, and I decided to go on a vacation and chill with family for sometime before heading back to work. I am someone who believes in taking my sweet time to move ahead in life. There is no hurry,” adds Plabita, who made her Bollywood debut with Rajkumar Hirani’s PK, where she played Anushka Sharma’s onscreen sister.
