Birthdays are special for everyone. And so it is for Kriti Sanon, who cuts the cake today. At times, though, she does feel that the birthday hoopla is overrated, shares the actor. Why? Kriti replies, “Because you start getting this happy feeling — everyone makes you feel that this is your birthday week... But it just comes and goes so fast that you don’t even realise it.” That might be truer this time than in other years, as it’s a ‘working birthday’.

“I’ve just come back from London after a schedule of Housefull 4, and I have one week before shooting for Luka Chuppi. So this one week will go all in the prep,” she says. Besides these films, Kriti has Panipat and Arjun Patiala.

But it’s not all work and no play for the star. There was a pre-birthday bash, in fact. Kriti says, “It was (the 2017 film Raabta’s director) Dinesh Vijan’s birthday on July 26, so we just randomly thought of throwing a party together. It was like celebrating his special day and breaking into mine.”

There’s another reason why this party was memorable. The actor, who’s just five films old in Bollywood, says, “Technically speaking, it can be called my first filmi party

(laughs). And I think it was fun. So today, I’m home, relaxing, chilling and trying get over the party exhaustion. I’ll get back to prep by this evening.” The actor adds, “I think working on your birthday is a good feeling.”

Kriti doesn’t expect much from her birthdays, except for this one surprise that younger sister Nupur always plans for her — the big reveal is a lot of fun. “She’ll buy something a little before my birthday and then she’ll start getting restless and start asking me a few days before, ‘Can I show it to you?’ And I am like, ‘No, don’t show it to me right now, it spoils half the surprise,’” says big sis, laughing heartily.

There’s this one time when Nupur made a scrapbook for Kriti with the help of their mother. The actor cherishes it; she carried it with her to Mumbai when shifting from Delhi. “It’s a cute scrapbook that starts with when I was born, and has pictures of me as a baby, along with my parents, nana, nani… She wrote little things, used thumb prints with paints, and even cut bhindi and coloured them to decorate the border (laughs). I like flipping though its pages to reread what she wrote and go through mere bachpan ke photos,” says Kriti.
