Why Romit Raj has been missing from action on TV?

After his last show, Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi... Let’s Go, Romit Raj stayed away from the small screen for three years. The actor, who is planning a comeback now, had both personal and professional reasons to not do television.

Romit says, “I didn’t take up shows because of two big reasons. Firstly, I was travelling to Pune every weekend as my mother-in-law was diagnosed with cancer, she needed Tina (his wife) and my attention. So, meeting doctors and hospital visits took my time. The second reason is that I’ve always wanted to do films and I chose to do TV only when I was offered good shows where the male protagonist was of importance.”

The actor adds, “In the past three years the roles which were offered to me were not exciting enough. On a TV show, roles or characters are discussed the last; they talk about budget first. Remuneration is important, but more than that acting is... it’s a passion for me,” says the actor, who wants to do a romantic drama next.

What’s his take on the genre of reality shows? “Reality shows are fun. I have never been offered reality shows. I love hosting, too, and would love to do a stand-up comedy show. I can do Khatron Ke Khiladi, as it’s one of my favourite shows. I enjoy doing action and show is all about daring stunts,” adds the actor.
