Here’s when Kanika Dhillon will take to direction

Writer Kanika Dhillon was the assistant director to Farah Khan Kunder for the 2007 film, Om Shanti Om. Going behind the camera and helming a film is exactly what she sees herself doing, but in the distant future. For now, she’s happy being a story, dialogue and screenplay writer for a bunch of upcoming films. “Right now, there is too much in hand, but yes I do have plans to direct someday. The day I write a story that I can’t let anyone else direct, I will do it myself,” smiles Kanika.

Content with the positive response from the audience for her latest Bollywood film, Manmarziyaan (directed by Anurag Kashyap and starring Taapsee Pannu, Abhishek Bachchan and Vicky Kaushal), she is hopeful that her upcoming projects will also make a place in the hearts of the audience.

With that in mind, Kanika is fully involved with her upcoming projects, which include Mental Hai Kya, Kedarnath, Heer and Ek Tha Suar. While Kedarnath is expected to release this year, the rest will hit screens in 2019.

“While Mental Hai Kya is a psychological film, Heer is a love story… I don’t think about genres when I am penning a story. A story is always a story for me, nothing else matters. Moving ahead, they may fall into different genres, but this doesn’t go on in my mind. People often ask me this question, and trust me, I can never answer them. As a writer, I am emotionally involved with my stories,” says Kanika.
