“My elder daugh­ter got ad­mis­sion at Chelsea School in Shimla but since she came from a joint fam­ily back­ground she took time in set­tling down in hos­tel. She get­ting home­sick all the time made me write po­etic con­so­la­tion let­ters to her in English,” says Ra­jiv.

“It was dur­ing vis­its to Shimla I met poet Dr Som Ran­chan. He heard my po­etry and mo­ti­vated me to write more. His en­cour­age­ment, guid­ance and sup­port re­sulted into my first po­etry col­lec­tion – Conch Shell And Cowries - in 1998,” states Ra­jiv who even be­gan writ­ing novel which is yet to pub­lish as he is not sat­is­fied with it.

In 2014, two more books ‘A Mon­u­ment to Pi­geons’ and ‘Love is Lot of Work’ were pub­lished by Ra­jiv Khan­del­wal fol­lowed by an­other com­pi­la­tion of his po­ems ti­tled ‘A Time To For­get’. In­ci­den­tally, the theme of most of these cre­ations was love. “That’s be­cause I had a love mar­riage with Seema,” he says.
