PEOPLE TELL ME I NEED TO LET GO: SANDHU

The singersongwriter says the quality of each song is essential, as is getting its music video right

Singer-songwriter Harrdy Sandhu, who recently told us that he took time to release his latest single, Kya Baat Ay, following the success of Naah (launched earlier this year), believes in being a perfectionist when releasing music. The 32-yearold says he does not believe in releasing music in a hurry, as he feels it affects the music.

“There are two approaches, when releasing music. Some people don’t like to have a gap between two singles and like to release it one after the other. But, that, I feel, compromises your product. Then there’s the other category, where musicians feel the product should be great, and don’t bother about how much time it takes to make that one song,” says the singer, known for singles such as Soch, Naah and Yaarr Ni Milyaa .

“Of course there’s pressure from fans, and other places to keep making music. One deals with that. I belong to the second category. I look at things very minutely. I try to find perfection in everything. Usme doob jata hun main. (laughs). And sometimes, I’ll change the line, sometimes I’ll change the melody. I mean, the first and last draft of my songs are never the same. Sometimes, people tell me that I need to let go, and not keep on making changes with the song,” he laughs.

Another aspect Harrdy thinks about, a lot, is the music videos. The singer feels music is now “consumed visually”, and music videos are essential in the overall packaging of the entire song. “It has become a very important aspect of music these days. People don’t listen to music as much as they now consume it visually. So, one has to think about the right kind of video for their song,” he adds.
