PM Modi and the film fra­ter­nity were in dis­cus­sion for us­ing the power of cin­ema for pos­i­tive change

Bol­ly­wood’s gen next, in­clud­ing ac­tors Alia Bhatt, Ran­veer Singh, Sid­harth Mal­ho­tra, Varun Dhawan, Ran­bir Kapoor, Bhumi Ped­nekar, and Vicky Kaushal met with Prime Min­is­ter Naren­dra Modi on Thurs­day to dis­cuss films and the im­pact they have on so­ci­ety.

Or­gan­ised by film­mak­ers Karan Jo­har and Ma­haveer Jain, the stars came to Delhi for the meet­ing. Jain tells us, “PM be­lieves our in­dus­try is a soft power, and we con­trib­ute a lot to the so­ci­ety as the in­flu­ence is huge. We thanked him for the GST re­duc­tion in ticket prices.”

Ra­jkum­mar says, “It was an hon­our to join my in­dus­try mates in this dis­cus­sion with our Prime Min­is­ter. Ini­tia­tives like these catal­yse pos­i­tive change not just for cin­ema but so­ci­ety as a whole.”

Film­maker Ash­winy Iyer Ti­wari, who was also a part of the del­e­ga­tion, tells us, “It was an in­ter­ac­tion that takes sto­ry­telling to new heights. We talked about build­ing a bet­ter so­ci­ety through entertainment.”

Jo­har also took to In­sta­gram to share his thoughts on the meet. “As a com­mu­nity, there is a huge in­ter­est to con­trib­ute to na­tion build­ing. There is so much that we want to do. And can do and this di­a­logue was to­wards how and what ways we can do that…” he wrote.

Last month, a group of ac­tors and film­mak­ers, in­clud­ing Ajay Devgn, Ak­shay Ku­mar, and Sid­dharth Roy Kapur, met the PM in Mumbai to dis­cuss is­sues faced by the film in­dus­try.
