Marjaavaan’s set depicts Dussehra in all its grandeur

After the success of Satyameva Jayate, director Milap Milan Zaveri is back again with yet another mass entertainer, Marjaavaan. The movie stars Riteish Deshmukh, Sidharth Malhotra, Tara Sutaria, and Rakul Preet Singh.

Bollywood films are colourful affairs that require considerable time, effort, and money for the construction of their sets which in turn play a very crucial part in the storytelling process. Milap Zaveri along with the production designer, Priya Suhas, created a humongous set in Mumbai’s Dahisar for the film.

Keeping in mind the importance of engaging the audiences to Raghu’s (Sidharth Malhotra’s character) world, an entire basti (slum area) was constructed along with a 30-feet statue of Raavan. It took about two months to built the statue. The idea was to depict the celebration of Dussehra festival that displays the victory of good over evil — an important aspect of the story. A glimpse of the same is visible in the trailer as well.

Milap recalls, “We constructed a huge set in Dahisar. It was like a world in itself with all the lanes and different houses. All credits to Priya Suhas, who researched different locations in Mumbai before she came up with this beautiful world. We shot there for 30 days and our entire film is almost based in this basti that was created. It was amazing to have this humongous set with a lot of people present at all times.”

Produced by Bhushan Kumar, Divya Khosla Kumar, Krishan Kumar (T-Series) and Monisha Advani, Madhu Bhojwani, Nikkhil Advani (Emmay Entertainment), Marjaavaan releases on November 15.

She likes to work hard and party even harder, and actor Divya Dutta leaves no opportunity to socialise with her loved ones. But hopping from one Bollywood party to another? The actor says she finds it a social compulsion.

“Sometimes there are certain friends you really want to meet. And sometimes the Bollywood parties get on to me beyond a point. There are certain social compulsions that you have to do,” says Divya, before going on to share why she is known as Cinderella in her friend circle. “The moment the clock strikes 12 or maximum 12.30, I’m gone. But when it comes to Bollywood parties, you have to attend it out of certain social compulsions,” she says.

Having to dress up for such occasions only adds to her chagrin, so much so that she calls it “the most painful thing to do”. The Fanney Khan actor shares, “People at home make fun of me when every morning I say ki aaj main kya pehnoon? They all laugh and say that she has come back with her favourite question. So then all the calls go to the designer friends. But I think it’s all worth the efforts when you start getting compliments and people ask about who (designer) you are wearing?”

But then, the 42-year-old actor has no qualms about just “going anti-social at times” when she doesn’t feel up to it. “I just stay at home cuddled up in my bed and watch a web series or read. Or I play with my nephews and niece or my pet. I do have mood swings which can go into extremes,” she says.

The actor is planning to escape to the hills, this New Year, with her close friends. “I’ll sneak out time for the New Year with my friends and will go to the hills for three days. You need that rejuvenation. It’s nice to work hard and party harder,” Divya shares.
