BEGUM AKHTAR AWARD
Ghazal singer Ustad Yugantar Sindoor received the Begum Akhtar Award 2018-19 on the concluding day ceremony of UP Diwas held at Awadh Shilp Gram. He received a prize of Rs 5 lakhs and citation from chief minister Yogi Adityanath. Sindoor has made his special contribution in the field of music for the last 40 years and has made the country and the state proud by performing his art in many countries. He has earlier received Sangeet Natak Academy Award-2002, Swar Saurabh Award 2002, Bazm-e-Adab Award-2003 Niranjan Prasad Kala Samman-2019 and Noor-e-Ghazal Award1995 to name a few. He is currently serving as senior music convenor at All India Radio, Lucknow.
Loreto Convent’s ‘Batch of 1970’ organised a Golden Jubilee reunion on Monday. Invited by the nuns and the Loreto Alumnae Association, about 25 alumni from the batch of 1970 visited Loreto for the reunion.
The alumni planted trees as a way to give to the environment as well as reminisce about their times at the campus. They gifted a scholarship amount to the Jagruti Foundation, run by Loreto for underprivileged girls as well. To express their gratitude towards the Alumnae Association, the alumni gifted potted plants to them.
Manjit Batra, Kren Sahi, Raka Dixit, Shobha Tyagi, Rita Chandy, Vinay, Rita Singh, Sushma Sindhi, Poonam Mehrotra, Amrita Mukerji, Sarah, Neena Mansukhani, Naheed, Abhilasha Chetan, Preeta Singh, Bela Bhatia, Poonam Seth, Vidyut, Umme Farwah, Shakeela Bano, Surabhi Kapoor, Neena Singh and, Rita Singh were the alumni present at the reunion.
Students at Loreto organised a special assembly for the alumni. Addressing the students at the assembly, the alumni shared stories of Loreto as well as thanked their alma mater. Alumni, Surabhi Kapoor said, “We wanted to relive our days and so we decided: let us all come together, meet, and do something for our alma mater because we owe a lot to it for the way it has helped us. Though there are some changed to the school, Loreto is still timeless.”
The alumni spent their afternoon having lunch together. They met outside the Loreto campus in the evening as well. For some alumni, it was the first time in 50 years that they had visited Loreto and met their classmates. The joy was apparent on their faces. “Everyone is extremely happy and in a good mood since we’re getting to catch up and remember old times,” said Kapoor.
