The 7th annual Wajid Ali Shah Festival saw dance ballet ‘Gomti 1857: Kranti ka pahla sawan’ in the state capital on Sunday. The ballet was directed by Muzaffar Ali on a poem by Rahi Masoom Raza on the aftermath of 1857 the first war of independence.

The ballet was presented at the backdrop of the majestic ruins of Dilkusha Palace and the highlight of the event were colourful lights that made the show look grander. A team of 60 dancers was led by kathak danseuse Shinjani Kulkarni, niece of legendary guru Pt Birju Maharaj. This was followed by ‘Anjuman E Dil’, a musical jugalbandi by Roohani Sisters – Dr Jagriti Luthara Prasanna and Dr Neeta Pandey.

Earlier in the day, a talk on Lucknow’s composite culture and Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb was delivered by Morari Bapu. He gave a message of compassion, truth and love to a large audience. The spiritual guru said that communal harmony is the basis of Lucknow’s identity which is the need of hour in today’s world.

The event was organised by the Lucknow Chapter of Rumi Foundation and Uttar Pradesh Tourism.
