lllDilip saab will live in the memory of every cinegoer. Every actor has learnt dialogue delivery from him. I got an opportunity to work with him in Saudagar (1991) and that gave me a chance to watch him closely. When he would speak, it was mesmerising. Everyone used to just listen to him.

What a man! I am dumfounded. I was in that era when these guys were worshipped. I was truly blessed to work with the man in three movies — Vidhaata (1982), Mazdoor (1983) and Aag Ka Dariya (1990). Now, the thought of it gives me goose bumps.

I was fortunate to work with him in Ganga Jamuna (1961) and Bairaag (1976). I was nervous working with him but he would always keep the environment light on the sets. He inspired everyone and was a great human being.

We worked together in Vidhaata, Karma (1986) and Saudagar, and grew to be close friends. He transformed my perspective of looking at people. He was a big man, but a child at heart. If you touched his heart, he was yours.

He has been an inspiration and an institution. He was the reason for so many people coming into films. He was always soft spoken. The way he talked was poetry. He was multilingual but would choose Punjabi whenever talking to me.

lllKapoor was also an actor, was his friend. Father used to complain to him: ‘Why is your young and healthy son doing this work?’

One episode in my life that I’d like to forget is a grave mistake I made, of getting involved with a lady I had met at a cricket match.

I was totally involved in batting (after not being able to set the mood to shoot the climax of Footpath). After a while, I had a strange feeling... I told Zia Sarhadi (director) that I was ready to shoot my scene that day. The tragedy king was getting into my bones. I started believing I was born to suffer... Drama coaches and psychiatrists asked me to shift to comedy. the cultural world just lost its shine but the legacy of his light lives on forever. Rest in peace Dilip Saab.

Best actor Indian cinema has ever seen, will ever see #RIP Dilip Saab

We are all nothing but versions of you Dilip Saab. Every actor has studied you in awe. You were as close to PERFECT as it can get. You will live on forever sir. You are TIMELESS.
