COMFY, COZY AND CHIC: LOUNGEWEAR IS THE NEW DENIM!

Who says you cannot wear loungewear outdoors? From actorhosts Amy Schumer, Regina Hall and Wanda Sykes closing out the 94th Academy Awards in chic night suits to Bollywood’s ‘It’ girls confidently swapping denim with stylish loungewear for their airport looks, the boundary between indoor and outdoor clothing seems to be fast blurring.

Earlier confined to the work-from-home setup, cozy printed night suits, chic pyjamas and relaxed co-ords are being worn by fashionistas outside their homes uninhibitedly.

“It is about prioritising comfort over fashion, but not at the cost of looking frumpy. The pandemic and the subsequent lockdown made loungewear the biggest trend and now, people have learned how to wear it outdoors in style. Today, we see brands coming up with imaginative collections that are absolutely fun to wear outdoor,” opines designer Rina Dhaka.

New-age loungewear is intelligent and multipurpose, believes designer Gautam Gupta. “Many brands have introduced unisex lines of comfort wear. It’s loungewear that you can wear to a party, for a virtual office meeting, a small gathering, while going out for a walk or a relaxed brunch with friends,” he adds.

At its core, fashion is about expressing one’s individuality and feeling comfortable. And loungewear is being designed to reflect exactly these values, which makes Gen Z and millennials fall in love with it, feels fashion designer Hemant Sagar. He adds, “After trying out above-the-keyboard dressing, young people want to step out in loungewear in breathable fabrics, modern silhouettes and fun prints.”

However, when opting to step out in loungewear, do keep a few things in mind. Firstly, look for chic prints, sleek cuts and breathable, cool and soft fabrics that will give a luxe vibe to your overall look. Secondly, ensure you team your loungewear pieces with a pair of funky sneakers, strappy flats or nude bellies, and opt for a neat, elegant hairstyle. The idea is to look stylish, not sloppy!
