Leander Paes challenges court order to pay ex-partner Rhea Pillai
Former tennis player Leander Paes has reportedly approached a Mumbai sessions court to quash an order directing him to pay ₹1 lakh maintenance every month and also a monthly rent of ₹50,000 to his former partner, model Rhea Pillai. The order, which was passed by a metropolitan magistrate court in February, said that Paes had ‘caused various acts of domestic violence’ to Pillai.
In his appeal, the 49-year-old reportedly said that he is unable to take care of Pillai’s financial needs. He also alleged that she had burdened him financially despite getting two flats from her ex husband, actor Sanjay Dutt, as part of their divorce settlement.
In the appeal, Paes has said that the relationship was not in the “nature of marriage” and that he had been cordial with her only for the sake of their child born in 2006. The plea also states that Pillai falsely alleged being in a relationship in the nature of marriage with him since 2005, as she was married to Dutt until 2008. The plea will be heard on November 17.
