Actor Ravie Dubey has made it clear that he has now shifted his focus away from television to work on the web. While this might disappoint his fans, he has some concrete reasons for the decision.

The 38-year-old says, “In fact, my last TV fiction outing was Jamai Raja, which ended way back in 2017. At that time, the OTT (over-the-top) scenario was not that big. For an artiste to engage in a finite setup, they only had the choice of non-fiction shows.” The actor, who hosted a variety of reality TV shows, then starred in web shows like Jamai 2.0 and Matsya Kaand.

Dubey says the OTT boom in the last two years made him switch gears back to acting. In between, he had been producing films and TV shows with his wife, actor Sargun Mehta. “Web excites me more than non-fiction shows. You are always an actor first, and a producer-anchor later,” he adds, explaining why he decided to take up acting again. He adds, “Digital platforms offer you a variety in terms of the opportunities; the roles can be very different from one another. In TV, one show goes on until there is demand from the audience. However, projects on OTT are all outlined right at the beginning; it’s finite and divided into seasons, which allows you to explore more work in the meantime.”

When asked if he is worried about streaming content reaching its saturation point, the actor says content on any medium will get saturated someday. However, he is aiming at being a part of some good quality shows until that happens with OTT content.
