The 60 stab wounds on the body of the four-year-old girl child could only have been inflicted either by a psychopath or a man with a deep personal enmity with the deceased’’s family, believe the police.

“After studying the post-mortem examination report and photographs of the girl’s body, the conclusion is that either it’s the act of a psychopath or a person with deep personal enmity with the family,” said J Ravinder Goud, senior superintendent of police (SSP).

He added, “If the assailant’s motive was to murder the girl after rape, then he would have slit her throat or strangulated her to death. But he had stabbed the girl repeatedly”.

The SSP said the fact was yet to be established but police were working on this line and the entire vicinity around the pavement where the girl was sleeping with her mother and two siblings near Mithaiwala crossing in Gomtinagar was under vigil.

He said, “We are zeroing in on other persons sleeping on the pavement nearby, paan shop owners and slum dwellers in the vicinity.”

He said devoted police teams in civvies had been deployed only for this purpose.

Sources, however, said the police teams were scanning out video footage of 14 more CCTVs installed in houses in and around the crime scene.

The police had earlier scanned the footage of 18 CCTV cameras installed at different installments in and around Mithaiwala crossing in Gomti N agar on Tuesday.

The girl was sleeping with her mother and two siblings on the pavement near the crossing on Sunday night from where she was kidnapped, brutally raped and killed after being stabbed repeatedly.

Her mutilated body was found near Neelkanth sweet shop on Monday morning.
