Youth announces suicide plan on social site, hangs himself

LUCKNOW: After announcing his suicide decision on a social networking site, Saurabh Gupta, 21, ended his life at his rented accommodat­ion in Shaktinaga­r locality in Ghazipur police area on Thursday morning. The deceased belonged to Lakhimpur Kheri and was studying in a city college. He was a BA Part II student and was preparing for competitiv­e examinatio­ns.

Ghazipur police station incharge Nouvendu Siroi said Saurabh Gupta’’s brother-inlaw Manish Gupta told the police that he was alerted on Thursday morning after spotting Saurabh’s social site update stating that he had failed to achieve his dream to compete in bank exams. He said the update also said that this was his last update and now he did not want to live. He said the update was done early in the morning at around 4 am.

Siroi said the deceased youth’s brother-in-law immediatel­y called his college friend Gaurav Singh, who stays some distance from Saurabh’s house. He said Gaurav rushed to his friend’s house and informed his family members and police when Saurabh did not respond even after repeated knocking on the door. A Class 9 student Abhiraj Chatruvedi, 14, son of Prakhar Chaturvedi, a resident of Bashiratga­nj, Na ka wa s reported missing from his house since Wednesday.

The police said the initial probe suggest that he himself disappeare­d when his parents told him to repeat the class after he scored poor marks in the final examinatio­n. His parents had also changed his school.

In another case, a fiveyear-old girl Shanno, daughter of Guddu, a resident of Malihabad, is missing from her relative’s place in Madiaon for the last one month. She and her family had come to Madiaon to attend a marriage on June 2. The police have failed to trace her so far.
