STATE GOVT RELEASES ONE YEAR’S SALARY OF COLVIN TEACHERS

- HT Correspondent

LUCKNOW: In the wake of the Supreme Court contempt notice, the state government has released one year’s salary of all 10 teachers of Colvin Taluqdars’ College for the academic session 2012-13. The government has credited one year’s full salary to the teachers’ accounts, which is to the tune of R54.46 lakh.

Only last month, the Supreme Court had issued a contempt notice to the college management for not complying with its previous order. The the apex court had explicitly said that the college must pay salary to the teachers of the UP Board wing and also settle their arrears, if any, at the earliest. The court had even asked the college manager to appear before it for hearing of the case on July 15.

UP Madhyamik Shikshak Sangh office-bearer RP Mishra has welcomed the state government’s move. But he has demanded that the college management must recruit more teachers and non-teaching staff to meet the requirements of the college.

Colvin College had started the UP Board section last year on the directives of the SC, but it had not paid a penny to its teachers till a few days back. This prompted the teachers’ body to move court. The Colvin management could not be reached for comment on the issue.
