FAIZABAD: Congress’s UP incharge Madhusudan Mistry on Thursday lashed out at the BJP and said if Modi became the prime minister it would be the darkest day in the history of India.

Interacting with party workers from east UP districts here, he wondered why the BJP thought of Ayodhya and the temple issue during election time only.

He said his party did not take the BJP seriously as the Congress believed that any attempt of the saffron party to improve its 2009 vote per- centage (17%) in the state to a winning target of about 30-35% this time around would be just a dream.

The focus of the party’s organisational meeting was to give tips to the party workers as to how they should publicise among the masses the Centre’s development schemes like the MNREGA, Mistry later told newspersons.

Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) president Dr Nirmal Khatri also accompanied Mistry.

Mistry, also the AICC general secretary, further said the need of the hour was to strengthen the party at the grassroots in accordance with the vision of

the party’s vice president Rahul Gandhi.

He, along with Kharti, also told the partymen to devise a transparent model for selecting candidates through district and block level review meetings.

The party’s UP in-charge also said the party would soon declare its candidates for Mainpuri, Kannauj and Etawah Lok Sabha seats on the demand of the party workers from these areas in this regard.

In 2009 general elections, the Congress had not fielded its candidates from these seats.

Rajendra Pratap Singh, party’s district president for Faizabad, said Mistry gave a patient hearing to the grievances and suggestions of the party workers at the meeting. He hoped that it would definitely energise them for the election campaign.

The AICC general secre- tary, who arrived in Faizabad on Wednesday, inaugurated the Congress zonal office and inter- acted with the party workers of Faizabad district on the first day of his visit.
