‘Torture, pain have affected Yashpal’s sanity’
BAREILLY: Torture, pain and hunger was all that Yashpal confronted during his imprisonment in Kot Lakhpat jail in Pakistan for three long years, which made him lose his mental balance, said his father. He was released from the Pakistan jail on Tuesday.
Yashpal’s father Baburam said his son had changed completely. “There is a sea change in his behaviour. What I have observed in the past 12 hours is that he is not in his senses. And it’s all because of torture and pain that the Pakistan authorities had inflicted on my son”, sobbed Baburam while sharing the experiences his son had suffered during imprisonment.
The condition in Pakistan jail was extremly bad, he said. The fact he concluded after having a word with another jail inmate who was lodged with Yashpal and was freed with him on the same day. “They used to give them a chapatti a day. And also asked them to sign blank papers and give false statements in court during hear- ing,” said Baburam who had a word with Mohammed Lateef of Gujarat who was also freed with Yashpal. Those who refused to give the false statements had to undergo extreme torture. “And my son too had suffered the same torture several times which has deeply affected his mental health,” baburam said.
Dr Pradeep, who was accompanying Yashpal’s father during the journey to Wagah border where Yashpal was freed, said, “He only recalls three wordsDelhi, Pakistan and India. He can not recall anything else, not even his father”, said Pradeep.
