LUCKNOW: The Delhi chapter of the Lucknow University alumni association will hold a get-together for its members on Sunday. Vice chancellor SB Nimse will attend the function and use the opportunity to explore possibilities of roping in old students for contributing in the development of their alma mater.

The dinner meet is being hosted at the Constitution Club of India, said an official, while informing that in future, similar events would be held in Lucknow and Mumbai, where the alumni associations are active.

The new Lucknow University V-C has restarted the practice of meeting the alumni after a gap of around six years.

“The idea is to keep the passouts in the loop and see how these illustrious ex-students can help the varsity maintain its glorious history,” said an official.

The last time such a meeting took place was at Delhi’s India Habitat Centre in 2006 and was attended by around 40 alumni members.

The oldest alumnus who graced the occasion was 103-year-old justice (retd) Ram Nath Sharma from the 1926 batch. Dr Giri Lal Gupta, 91, was also present along with civil servants like Vijay Sharma and UKS Chauhan.

The present V-C has expressed his desire to meet the alumni in small groups so he could interact with them personally.

“Around 50-55 persons have confirmed their participation and many other are expected to join in at the last moment,” said an official.

Some prominent ex-students who will attend include the chief executive officer of Jaipuria Institute of Management Pankaj Gupta, HR head of Igate Anshumal Dikshit, IAS officer UKS Chauhan, ONGC HR head SD Shukla and HR head of Beehive VC Chitravanshi.

Member of Parliament Arvind Singh is also likely to be present.
