METRO RAIL’S AMAUSI LINK DISCUSSED
LUCKNOW: Senior officials of the chief minister’s office held a meeting with the civial aviation experts and representative to discuss the alignment of Amausi airport link of the proposed Lucknow Metro Rail project here on Friday. Metro rail service in the first phase has been planned on a 22.9 kilometre stretch and Amausi Airport would be the starting station of this north-south corridor.
“The metro station has been proposed near a curve on the Airport Road. Hence, it was resolved that technical opinion of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) experts should be sought on the alignment of the track and selection of location for the station. But in no way, the move should affect traffic on the busy Kanpur-Lucknow highway,” said an official, who attended the meeting chaired by Anita Singh, secretary to chief minister. Officials were told to explore the possibility of constructing an underpass near the proposed station site to ensure smooth flow of traffic. The civil aviation officials lamented that they were unable to take possession of the land earmarked for airport’s expnasion plan. “People are still cutlivating crops on its even though this land was notified for airport way back in 1948,” said one of them. Consequently, it was agreed that a boundary wall should immediately be built around the peripheral area of the airport. The DMRC is expected to submit a modified detailed project report by next week, said the official.
