Young Joshi impresses all
Opening day saw hectic activity on both on and off the courts
LUCKNOW: Hectic activity on both on and off the courts on the opening day of the 3rd TR Pandey Memorial District Badminton Championship remained a routine affair on Friday evening.
Over 100 young shuttlers mainly in the age categories of under-10, 13 and 15 along with their parents were seen checking their match schedule. Some of them even seen celebrating their first round wins.
Not only for the organisers but for the parents too, managing such a huge crowd of kids appeared a bit difficult. But, on the other side of it, they loved to do so. Probably, the youngest one in the tournament Sridhar Joshi was fascinating in his right-hand play as he was expected to be in his maiden official event at any level in the boys under-10 singles.
Son of the NIS table tennis coach Sunil Chandra Joshi, Sridhar made full use of his experience of training on the wooden courts at the Vijayantkhand Stadium and didn’t allow his first round rival Parth Singh too much space to free his arms before scor- ing 30-17 win. In the girls under-10 singles, Damak Parsshan knocked out Shruti Walia 30-11, but Ojesh Dixit had to struggle hard before brushing aside Nikita Suri 30-29 in a thriller.
