Not able to get past the past
I do not agree with Karan Thapar’s views, in Belfast to Kashmir ( Sunday Sentiments, July 7), that ‘If Protestants and Catholics in Belfast can put their past behind them and together seek a common future why can’t Indians and Pakistanis?’. While Protestants and Catholics in both Ireland and England seem to have moved on, in the subcontinent, the divide is largely on religious lines and thus a consensus is difficult to arrive at. However, the political administration in New Delhi and Islamabad should realise that harmony is essential for the economic prosperity of both the countries.
